Stage Two Commissioning of the Talison Greebushes Low Grade Lithium Project

MSP News

MSP Engineering Pty Ltd, formally known as McSweeney Partners, has today announced successful Stage Two commissioning of the $8.8m Talison Minerals Greenbushes Low Grade Lithium Project.

In late 2007, Talison commissioned MSP Engineering to undertake a scoping study to recover fine lithium product from its HMS circuit at its Greenbushes Operations, located south of Perth in Western Australia.

Following completion of the study, MSP was awarded the complete process, engineering design and construction contract in February 2008, with a tight project schedule and target completion date of February 2009.

The project is being delivered in three phases. Phase One was commissioned in November 2008, incorporating the raw water and dewatering circuit. Phase Two incorporated the feed preparation circuit. Phase Three, being the balance of all plant and associated circuit, is currently on track to be delivered within budget and schedule.

This project sees the continued and long term successful association MSP Engineering has enjoyed with Sons of Gwalia and its successor Talison Minerals, who acquired the Wodgina (located in the Pilbara region) and Greenbushes assets in 2007 from Sons of Gwalia.

MSP's association with both the Greenbushes and Wodgina Operations dates back over four decades when McSweeney Partners was founded in the early 70's by Mr John McSweeney.

John is best known for his work in mineral sands, tin, hard rock uranium and gold mining operations, and was a driving force in the formation of Consolidated Rutile Limited (Stradbroke Island, Australia). John is recognised for his management of Greenbushes Operations where he pioneered the tin smelter amongst other plant and process improvements.

Mr Peter McSweeney assumed management of MSP Engineering in the early 1990's and has seen its transition from a small mining consultancy to its position today as a mid-tiered, privately held, resource development firm specialising in the evaluation, engineering design, project management and construction of minerals processing facilities and associated infrastructure, both in Australia and overseas.

Peter, a Mechanical Engineer with over 20 years resource industry experience, believes that the relationship with Talison and its predecessor Sons of Gwalia is reflective of MSP's continued success in consistently delivering excellence in cost effective engineering solutions within the framework of a collaborative working relationship with long term clients.

MSP's work with Sons of Gwalia, and more recently with Talison, has seen the successful completion of over 40 diversified engineering projects managing in excess of $ 60.0m worth of works. This has included projects at Greenbushes, such as the HMS Expansion, Secondary Plant Upgrade, Lithium Crushing Circuit and Lithium Minerals Upgrade. At Wodgina, projects have included the Stage 1 Upgrade, Tantalite Expansion, North Camp Expansion and Cyclone George Remediation Projects including the new cyclone refuge facility.
