SILICA SANDS UPGRADE PROJECT

Client: ROCLA QUARRY PRODUCTS
Project value: $2m (thickener), $3.8m (expansion)
Location: Golden Grove, South Australia

MSP role: Engineering design and installation of a new thickener, and design and construction work to expand an established glass-grade silica sands processing facility.

Contract type: Design Services contract and EPCM contract
Project timing: Thickener 2007, Expansion 2009

MSP initially undertook detailed design and installation of a 10m diameter high-rate compression thickener and flocculent dosing facility at Rocla’s established Golden Grove silica sands operation in South Australia. The project was designed to overcome paste, water and environment issues that the plant was experiencing.

This project was followed by a Feasibility Study to review the glass plant circuit and prepare recommendations and a capital estimate study to double the plant’s production from 60,000 tonnes per annum to 120,000 tpa. The work included a full metallurgical investigation including bench scale, pilot plant and full scale field trials to develop a robust expanded glass plant.

MSP then provided EPCM services for an extensive expansion/debottlenecking project which was completed in 2009.
